An Open Letter to the Men and Women of the U.S. Secret Service
Written on behalf of President Rich Caruso and the Board of Directors
of the United States Secret Service Association
For over 159 years, the members of the U.S. Secret Service have faithfully served this nation, safeguarding the very foundation of our democracy through the protection of our leaders and the secure, constitutional transfer of power. Since 1865, the Secret Service has stood as a formidable shield, preserving our nation’s financial stability and our precious democracy through forty presidential campaigns, facilitating the peaceful transitions to our highest office.
The 2024 Presidential Campaign has brought extraordinary challenges into focus. With public attention intensifying, your unwavering dedication and honorable service have shone brightly. From thwarted assassination attempts to navigating leadership changes, your resilience has remained steadfast, showcasing an unbreakable commitment to duty amidst an operational tempo known only to those who have walked in your shoes.
We, the members of the United States Secret Service Association, understand well the gravity of your mission. The full extent of the sacrifice, expertise, and determination required to ensure protective coverage, support, and logistics during a presidential election season often goes unnoticed by the American public and members of Congress alike. However, we recognize and deeply appreciate your dedication, and we take great pride in your accomplishments.
Our association’s mission is to stand beside you, providing unwavering support during this historic moment and beyond. As the upcoming transition in presidential administration approaches, we are hopeful that the agency will continue to receive the essential resources it deserves to uphold its legacy. We are encouraged by the necessary changes that have been made, and we stand ready to support those who remain at the helm. The continuity of leadership by those who have experienced the unique challenges of this mission firsthand is essential for honoring over a century of sacrifice and continual growth.
With your dedication to our historical tenets of Justice, Duty, Courage, Honesty, and Loyalty you honor the traditions of this agency and inspire those who serve alongside you. The strength you exhibit each day, whether through complex financial investigations or with protective operations conducted around the world, serves as a reminder of the resilience and sacrifice required to protect our democracy. Your service embodies the courage of those who have come before and the promise of those yet to come.
On behalf of our Association, we extend our deepest gratitude to the more than 3,200 special agents, 1,300 Uniformed Division officers, and over 2,000 technical, professional, and administrative personnel who tirelessly serve this nation. Your commitment fills us with immense pride, and we stand with you as you continue to safeguard the pillars of our republic.
May God bless you, and may God continue to bless the United States of America.
