120 Years of Securing the Presidential Inauguration
The U.S. Secret Service has safeguarded Presidential Inaugurations for 120 years. This year’s event is unique—not only was it the 60th Presidential Inauguration, but it was also the largest National Special Security Event in U.S. history. In addition to the extensive coordination and resources required for an event of this scale, adjustments were made for everyone’s safety due to inclement weather, highlighting the dynamic challenges of what it takes to safeguard history.
