1865 Foundation

By the end of the Civil War, nearly one-third of all currency in circulation was counterfeit. As a result, the country's financial stability was in jeopardy. To address this concern, the Secret Service was established in 1865.

The 1865 Foundation’s mission is to provide emergency assistance in the form of scholarships and other financial support to the families of U.S. Secret Service personnel.

Catrina M. Bonus
Vice President, Safety and Security | University of Maryland Medical System

Catrina M. Bonus retired from the U.S. Secret Service in January 2023 after more than 26 years of distinguished federal law enforcement service. She made history as the first female Deputy Chief of the Uniformed Division, where she led a diverse workforce across the White House Branch and the James J. Rowley Training Center. Upon retirement, Catrina was named the inaugural Vice President of Public Safety at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, leading advancements in security operations, technology modernization, emergency management, workplace violence prevention, and parking and transportation. In July 2025, she was elevated to Vice President of Safety and Security for the University of Maryland Medical System, where she provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of public safety and security for a multi-hospital system serving communities across Maryland. In addition, Catrina serves as President and CEO of Women in Federal Law Enforcement (WIFLE), where she leads national efforts to advance the recruitment, retention, and professional development of women in federal law enforcement.

Rich Caruso of Southport, NC is serving his second term as President of the U.S. Secret Service Association. He previously held Board positions as Regional Director and Secretary. Rich is a 23-year veteran of the United States Secret Service and retired as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Vice Presidential Protective Division. Prior career assignments included Newark, NJ, Washington, DC, and Miami, FL.

Joe is a 30-year veteran of the United States Secret Service, holding several key positions in the Bush (41), Clinton, Bush (43) and Obama administrations. In 2014, Joe was appointed Acting Director of the Secret Service by President Barack Obama and Director in 2015. He retired from the Secret Service in 2017 and joined Comcast as it’s Chief Security Officer.

Joe attended the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY and graduated from Villanova University. A native Philadelphian, Joe and his wife Andrea have been married for 40 years and have four children.

James Creaghe has held the position of Region 1 Director for USSSA since 2020. Prior to then he was the USSSA Treasurer from 2016 until 2019.

Creaghe served as UD Officer in 1973 WDC, and as special agent in NYC from 1974 to 1985.

Manager for Baker Industries Physical Security Division in NJ and Philadelphia 1985-1987.

VP American Express Global Security 1987 to 2010 upon retirement. During this time oversaw the teams responsible for the Executive Protection Program, Workplace Violence Program, Event Security, Global Fire Safety, Physical Security at all company managed locations, 9/11 Recovery Security for the NY Headquarters which was severely damaged in the WTC collapse. Since 2013 provide contract security support to the SVP American Express Global Security.

Member of OSAC, ASIS, NY State 9/11 Security Review Team, Port Authority NY/NJ design team for new WTC Command Center, and former member of NY Bankers and Brokers Security Association, and the NYPD 1st Precinct Community Council.

For more than 15 years, Davidson has been at President Clinton’s side and played a central role in developing and operationalizing Clinton’s post-presidential vision. As Chief of Staff, Davidson manages a broad range of issues for the President: philanthropic initiatives, business endeavors, a family office, private sector engagement, political affairs as well as helping to create new partnerships for the former president. Davidson is the senior most member of the President’s inner circle and he and his core team focus on coordinating the President’s daily objectives as he spearheads the intra-organizational process behind long-term strategic planning.

Lucas Detor

Lucas Detor is a managing principal and member of the Investment Committee for AB CarVal, responsible for leading the firm’s investment strategy and management. He also oversees capital formation, corporate securities, transportation and real estate investments for the firm. Lucas joined AB CarVal from Morgan Stanley, where he most recently served as managing director and co-head of the global distressed and U.S. leveraged loan business. Lucas has also served the U.S. government as a Special Agent with the United States Secret Service, as well as serving in the U.S. Army Reserves and New York National Guard. Lucas received his M.B.A. from NYU’s Stern School of Business and his B.S. in accounting from SUNY Albany and is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive). Lucas was the founder and chair of ReserveAid which provided financial support to Reservists and National Guard members.

Ann Folkman is the chief marketing officer for AB CarVal. She joined AB CarVal in 2004 and is responsible for leading the group’s branding, marketing and communications strategy and activities. Prior to joining AB CarVal, Ann was director of public relations for Select Comfort. Before that, she owned her own marketing firm and spent several years in marketing communications at Padilla Speer Beardsley and with Burlington Northern. Peter (Pete) Marta's leading in-house and government experience helps companies prepare for and respond to cybersecurity incidents.

In his 25-year career, he led global cyber investigations, digital forensics, mobile tracking, and critical infrastructure protection. He founded the agency’s Global Investigative Operations Center and previously directed its Asset Forfeiture Branch, overseeing over $2B in seizures. Known for pioneering undercover work to apprehend international hackers, O’Neill received the Secret Service’s Special Agent of the Year Award, DHS Gold and Silver Medals, and numerous honors. He began his career in 1998 after earning a B.S. from James Madison University.

Leon NewsomeLeon Newsome

National Basketball Association

As the Chief Security Officer of the National Basketball Association, Leon Newsome oversees all aspects of security operations for the NBA, WNBA, NBA G League, NBA 2K League, Basketball Africa League, and associated events as well as the NBA’s 15 offices worldwide. Prior to his time as the Chief Security Officer, Leon spent 28 years with the Secret Service, rising to Deputy Director in August 2019. As Deputy Director, he oversaw the daily investigative and protective operations of an agency with more than 7,000 employees globally. Leon has also held other senior management positions within the Secret Service, where his responsibilities included leading the investigative efforts for all domestic and international offices, serving as the agent in charge of the protective detail for Vice President Joseph Biden and family, and overseeing the multiagency coordination of numerous National Special Security Events.

Leon Newsome is a former Deputy Director - U.S. Secret Service

Netty Tsai is a Managing Director in Investment Grade Credit Sales, based in New York. In this capacity, she focuses on the distribution and marketing of credit and related structured products.Prior to her current role she was part of the cross-asset sales team which was an IED/FID JV covering clients for both equity and fixed income products.

She served as the FID Summer Program leader Sophomore and Junior Analyst recruiting from 2017-21. She currently heads the Diversity Committee for FID Recruiting. Netty serves on the board of Boys Hope Girls Hope of New York, an organization that helps motivated high school students rise above disadvantaged backgrounds and prepares them for post secondary education. Before joining Morgan Stanley, Netty was at Merrill Lynch in Fixed Income Institutional Sales. She earned her Bachelor of Science from Skidmore College and her MBA from Columbia University.

Brian ParrBrian Parr

Brian Parr served as the Chief Security Officer of Citigroup Security and Investigative Services from 2012 to 2021 where he oversaw security, crisis management, and investigation functions for Citigroup and its worldwide subsidiary and legacy companies.

Prior to his role at Citigroup, Brian had a distinguished career in the United States Secret Service where he held positions in the areas of intelligence, protection, counter-terrorism, and cyber security. As part of the Presidential Protective Division, Brian led Counter Surveillance Operations, managed protective assignments for Presidents Clinton and Bush, served as Legislative Fellow to Senator Jon Kyl for the Judiciary Subcommittee on Terrorism, and was the Director for Threat Policy Coordination for the National Security Council led by Dr. Condoleeza Rice. He also served as a member of the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force. His career in the Secret Service culminated in his leadership as the Special Agent in Charge of the New York Field Office from 2007-2012.

Brian started his career as a Deputy United States Marshal in the Eastern District of New York, where he worked on fugitive investigations and witness protection. He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a B.S. and a M.S. in Criminal Justice.

Brian has served as a Director on the Advisory Boards for the National Counter Terrorism Center and the U.S. Secret Service Cyber Investigations.

Brian Parr is a former Special Agent in Charge of the New York Field Office of the U.S. Secret Service.

Henry ShiembobHenry Shiembob
Chief Security Officer / Head of Global Security, JP Morgan Chase

Henry Shiembob is the Global Chief Security Officer at JP Morgan Chase. He has responsibility for all security functions across JPMorgan’s 300K employees spanning operations in 125 countries. He has over 25 years of experience in all aspects of security leadership. He has held both CISO and CSO roles with particular strengths in global security, cyber security, international operations, insider threat, investigations, physical security, crisis management and government intelligence.

Previously he served as Chief Security Officer at Cognizant Technology Solutions. He oversaw all security operations, functions and resources globally across Cognizant's 260,000 employees and 39 countries; including physical security, investigations, cyber & information security, risk management, global security, and crisis response.

Prior to joining Cognizant Technology Solutions, Henry served as the Deputy CSO and Executive Director of Cyber Security and Global Operations for Verizon. He also spent five years with Kissinger & Associates where he was Team Leader for former Secretary of State Dr. Henry A. Kissinger.

In addition to his executive career, Henry has also held numerous volunteer positons on the Board of Directors of the Washington D.C. based National Children’s Alliance (NCA). Currently he holds the Immediate Past President position on the Board. Henry also is a member of the Corporate Advisory Group of Georgetown Law - Active Bystandership for Law Enforcement (ABLE) Project.

Henry obtained his Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Science from Charter Oak State College and earned his MBA in Information Assurance from the University of Dallas.

Rebecca SugarmanRebecca Sugarman
Partner & Chief Human Resources Officer, Brown Advisory

Rebecca Sugarman is a partner and the Chief Human Resources Officer at Brown Advisory. In this role she is responsible for developing and executing human capital strategy including overseeing recruitment, compensation, organizational design and talent management, training and development, diversity and inclusion initiatives, and colleague relations.

Prior to joining Brown Advisory in 2019, Rebecca spent 13 years at The Carlyle Group in Washington, D.C., where she most recently served as the head of human resources for the Real Assets Investment Segment as well as all Corporate Services.

Rebecca received her M.B.A. From Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business and her B.S. in Psychology from Vanderbilt University.

Rebecca is married to Greg Brazzle, a 15-year veteran of the USSS, who currently holds the title of Director of Investigative Technology in the Office of Investigations.

George SaxGeorge Sax
Senior Vice President and Chief Security Officer, T&M USA

George Sax joined T&M in January of 2022 and is the Senior Vice President and Chief Security Officer. George is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and managing the risk strategies for T&M’s client protective services, investigations services, and consulting services.

George is a former member of the U.S. Secret Service with more than 25 years of service. George held several executive level positions with the agency in Washington, D.C. including Deputy Assistant Director - Office of Investigations, Special Agent in Charge - Dignitary Protection Division, Special Agent in Charge - Office of Protective Operations, and Assistant Special Agent in Charge – Presidential Protective Division. George also held other notable positions in the New York City and Philadelphia regions.

Mr. Sax holds a bachelor’s degree from the College of New Jersey and a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University. He also holds an SES certification from the Office of Personnel Management.

Photo of Kim CheatleKimberly A. Cheatle served as the 27th Director of the U.S. Secret Service, assuming office on September 17, 2022. Over nearly two years at the helm, she guided the agency’s dual mission of protection and investigation, overseeing more than 8,000 personnel across a range of roles— from Special Agents and Uniformed Division Officers to technical and administrative professionals. Her leadership championed innovation, enhanced training, and technology modernization, with a strategic focus on recruiting and retaining top talent.

Before her appointment as Director, Ms. Cheatle was Senior Director of Global Security at PepsiCo. There, she led security operations across North American facilities, spearheading risk assessment frameworks, mitigation strategies, and continuity planning.

Her distinguished 27-year career with the Secret Service included serving as Assistant Director of the Office of Protective Operations. In this role, she managed a $133.5 million budget and coordinated across ten operational units and the Technical Security Division to deploy cutting- edge protective technologies for individuals, facilities, and events.
Earlier roles in the Secret Service included leadership of investigative field offices, oversight of training programs, and assignments on two protective details. She launched her career in Detroit, where she mastered the core disciplines of investigations and protection.

A lifelong public servant, Ms. Cheatle attributes her commitment to integrity and compassion to the values instilled by her family and upbringing.

Ms. Cheatle is currently the owner/principal of KACC27 LLC, a consultation firm dedicated to advising clients on risk mitigation, continuity planning, and security strategies designed to protect people, places, and events.

In this role, he is responsible for policies, procedures, and risk strategies, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Prior to joining PayPal, Mike served as the Deputy Chief Security Officer for the National Basketball Association (NBA). He led key components of the NBA’s global security program, including personal, physical, and technical security strategies for all league games, events, facilities, and international operations.

Before his tenure with the NBA, Mike dedicated over two decades to public service as a member of the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office and the United States Secret Service. He held senior leadership roles within the Office of Investigations and the Office of Protective Operations, contributing to numerous high-profile protective and investigative missions.

A native of Massachusetts, Mike holds a bachelor’s degree from Brown University, a master’s degree from the Naval Postgraduate School, and an Executive Education Certification from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.

Mike is a former Assistant Special Agent in Charge with the United States Secret Service.

Steve Hughes is the Chief Security Officer at Elliott Management Corporation. Prior to joining Elliott, Mr. Hughes spent a 25 year career with the United States Secret Service in various roles including Special Agent in Charge of the New York Field Office, Special Agent in Charge of the Dignitary Protective Division, Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Presidential Protective Division and supervisor of the Electronic Crimes Task Force.

Photo of Christopher LeoneChristopher Leone is a senior executive with three decades of experience in global security, risk management, and federal law enforcement. He currently serves as Senior Director of Global Physical Security at PayPal, where he leads the strategy and operations for protecting the company’s global assets and facilities. His work supports enterprise risk, organizational resilience, and regulatory compliance across PayPal’s physical footprint.

Prior to joining PayPal, Mr. Leone held a dual role at Crisis24 as Vice President of Security Operations for Customer Risk Solutions and Chief Security Officer. In this capacity, he led global client-facing programs integrating intelligence, travel risk, and duty of care, while also building and overseeing the company’s internal risk, resilience, and crisis management framework.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Leone served with distinction in the U.S. Secret Service, culminating in his appointment as a Senior Executive Service (SES) Special Agent in Charge of the James J. Rowley Training Center in Beltsville, Maryland. In this role, he was responsible for more than 900 personnel, a 500-acre campus, and a $62 million annual operating budget. His operational assignments included leadership roles in the Presidential Protective Division, Counter Assault Team, and Dignitary Protective Division, where he developed and implemented security strategies for U.S. Presidents, Cabinet officials, and foreign heads of state.

Mr. Leone is widely recognized for his ability to integrate cyber and physical security disciplines and to foster trusted partnerships across the public and private sectors. He established the Cyber Incident Response National Seminar Program, which brought together government, academic, and industry leaders to strengthen coordinated responses to emerging threats.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, a master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College, and a CISO Executive Certificate from Carnegie Mellon University. He is a Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) and is SES-certified through the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.

Photo of Dave MurrayDavid J. Murray, a native of Massachusetts, serves as the VP/Chief Security Officer at PayPal. In this position, David has Senior Executive responsibility for development and execution of a comprehensive security program including oversight of physical security, access control, intelligence, crisis management, and governance supporting PayPal’s security operations, as well as providing strategic vision and direction for the organization’s Global Safety & Security program and design while implementing security protocols for the long-term objectives of the organization.

Prior to joining PayPal, David served as the SES Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Secret Service San Francisco Field Office. In this senior executive position, his responsibilities included the direct executive oversight for the strategic management of all Secret Service responsibilities in Northern California. David spent over 20 years with the United States Secret Service and served in multiple protective and investigative assignments, including serving on the President’s Detail for President George W. Bush.

In this role, Jim leads the organization’s Global Security, Intelligence, Risk Management and Business Resiliency operations in safeguarding a workforce of 6,000+ people and 55 facilities in 23 different countries. In addition, Jim leads all Platform Integrity and Trust & Safety Operations in assuring protection of all Snapchat users from potential online harms.

Prior to joining Snap, Inc., Jim served as the 26th Director of the United States Secret Service from May 2019 to September 2022, where he led a diverse workforce of more than 8,000 special agents, police officers, and mission support personnel in executing the agency’s dual investigative and protective mission—including oversight of National Special Security Events and high-risk global protective operations.

Jim began his Secret Service career in 1995 as a Special Agent in the New York Field Office, where he conducted cyber-enabled financial crimes investigations and later served as the agency’s primary representative to the FBI/NYPD Joint Terrorism Task Force—contributing to national security and counterterrorism operations at a formative moment in U.S. threat response.

As a senior executive within the Office of Protective Operations, Jim
maintained direct operational oversight and leadership for the 2016 Presidential Campaign, Transition, and Inauguration, as well as multiple National Special Security Events—ensuring a hands-on approach to complex, high-stakes protective missions on both a national and global scale.

His prior leadership assignments included operational and supervisory roles on the Presidential Protective Division; Resident Agent in Charge of the Atlantic City Office; Special Agent in Charge of the USSS James J. Rowley Training Center; and Special Agent in Charge of the Washington Field Office.

A native of Point Pleasant, New Jersey, Jim earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Scranton, where he also completed the Reserve Officer Training Corps program and was commissioned as a U.S. Army Officer. He would go on to earn a Master’s Degree from Seton Hall University and later be bestowed with Doctorate Degrees from both universities. Jim is a graduate of the American University Key Executive Leadership Program and the 2016 FBI Leadership in Counterterrorism (LinCT) Fellowship Program.

Jim actively supports Heroes, Inc., honoring the families of fallen law enforcement officers; assists the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC); and serves on the Advisory Board for Seton Hall University’s Police Graduate Studies Program.

For exemplary public service throughout his career, Director Murray was recognized as the 2021 recipient of the Alexander Hamilton Award, the highest honor issued by the U.S. Department of the Treasury and, in 2022, was awarded the Presidential Rank Award for Meritorious Service by President Joseph R. Biden.

Tony OrnatoAnthony Ornato serves as Vice President of Global Security and Real Estate at Thermo Fisher Scientific, overseeing global security strategy, executive protection, real estate, and aviation. He previously served over 25 years with the U.S. Secret Service, holding senior executive roles including Assistant Director of Training, Special Agent in Charge of the Presidential Protection Division, and was detailed to the White House as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations. Anthony holds graduate degrees in forensic science and administrative leadership, and a B.S. in criminal justice.

Prior to joining BlackRock, Mike was the Global Chief Security Officer at Sotheby's and responsible for risk management and security operations worldwide which included safeguarding the company's employees, properties, and critical assets. Prior to that, Mike had 24+ years of diversified experience working as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge within the United States Secret Service. He served in various supervisory assignments within the agency with extensive experience in executive and physical protection, intelligence and threat analysis and complex financial and cyber crime investigations.
